Girl child day celebration by Health Department

Spot light 24: The National Day of Girl Child was celebrated by the Health Department, Chandigarh on 24th January. On this occasion a function was organized at Govt. Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, Chandigarh, Sh. Ajay Chagti, IAS, Secretary, Health Chandigarh Administration was the chief guest of the programme. He inaugurated the programme with a lamp lighting. Dr. Suman Singh, Director Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Vandana Mohan, District Family Welfare Officer and all Programme officers and officials of the Health department were also present in the programme.
In order to sensitize the general public to eliminate the gender based discrimination in the society, department conducted the following activities. Signature drive was organized in GMSH and various other health facilities. Secretary, Health, Chandigarh Administration distributed blankets to the newly born girls at Govt. Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector 16. Frontline Health Workers (ANMs) of the Health Department recited a poem on “Beti Bachao – Beti Padhao”. A “Skit” on a theme “Save the girl Child” was performed by Nursing Students. Drawing competitions were organized in ten Government Schools, in which about 250 students participated. Prizes were also distributed to the best performers. Lectures were delivered by the Incharges of Health and Wellness Centers on “Legal Rights and issues of women”.
Message on importance of girl child were displayed on LED Scrolls at Traffic Light points. On this occasion the Secretary, Health and Director Health Services, Chandigarh emphasized the importance of girl child and said that girls are the future leaders and we all must do our social and moral duties and provide full support to the girls in our society.
